What courses can I take on your website?

We have courses on a variety of topics and our catalog is growing every day! From computer skills to business skills and even courses to make a job search or career transition easier. Career Builder Institute is here to help you develop yourself and advance your career. For suggestions on future courses please visit our feedback mailbox at the bottom of this page. We want to hear from you!


Will I be tested on what I learn?

Our courses are created with interactive knowledge checks and scenario based activities. These are designed to help you learn the material and you will not be penalized for any wrong answers. Once you have completed a course, you will receive a completion certificate for each course! This will make a great addition to your resume!


How do I sign up for the Interview Skills Course? (Where are the free courses?)

We are excited to offer a free Interview Skills course on the CareerBuilder Institute website. To register for the interview skills course, please click on the following link: CareerBuilder Institute Free Courses.
You can see a complete listing of all the courses that we currently offer by clicking here: CB Institute Available Courses. If you don’t currently see a course that you would like, please continue to check back as we are always adding new classes to our course offerings. Most courses will provide you with a demonstration of how it works.


Do I receive a certificate for every class?

CareerBuilder Institute offers several types of certificates. Upon successful completion of all sections for any of the paid courses offered, you will receive a certificate of completion. The free courses on our website will not provide you with a certificate of completion.

We also offer industry certification courses which will provide you a higher level of certification as governed by those particular industry and trade groups.


Is the certification credible?

The courses that are offered through CareerBuilder Institute are designed to provide you with all the skills that are necessary to effectively use the knowledge that you learn to complete tasks using the software or skill set that you purchased the course for. They are designed and created by leading industry specialists and our content is gathered from years of research from subject matter experts.

Since no assessment is given to test your retention of the information that you've been exposed to, you would not be able to consider yourself an “expert.” However, because of the level of credibility that the CareerBuilder name has, you can rest assured that companies will recognize that your affiliation with our site and the courses offered on our site distinguish you from the average jobseeker.


What course versions come with my Microsoft Course purchase?

Our Microsoft training courses provide training in the 1997, 2000, 2002, 2003, and 2007 versions of the specified course. You have the option to complete only the versions that interest you. **However, please note that the certificate of completion for a particular version is only generated when you have completed each section for that version of the course.


What Courses should I take?

All of our courses will help you to learn and grow. We recommend you start with the courses that will have the most immediate impact to help you get that job you're working towards or help you grow professionally.

Helpful Hint: For the type of positions you want. Look closely at the job’s required skills and identify those you are missing. Then sign up for your course today!

Registration and Payment


How do I sign up to take classes?

To sign up, please click the following link: Register with CareerBuilder Institute to be taken to the registration page. Here you will be asked to enter your email address and create a password for your account. Once you have signed in, you will be able to view a listing of CB Institute Available Courses and from here you can purchase the courses that you are interested in taking.


How much time do I get to access my course?

Our courses are available for 30 days or 120 days depending on the subject matter. Remember, you can start and stop whenever you want. You may also complete the course as quickly as you want to also, or skip to any section of the courses you want.


How long do I have to complete the courses I bought?

To see specific course durations, please visit the “Available Courses” page click on the “Course Details” button of the course that interests you.


Is it free to register?

Yes!! You can sign up now with a few quick questions. You don’t pay a thing until you pick the courses you want and use our easy checkout process.


How much do the courses cost?

Our courses vary in prices depending on the length and interactivity of the courses. You get access to your courses for less than a dollar a day. All of our courses are great so click on the Course Catalog tab for specific course prices and sign up for your course today!


Can I get discounts for multiple purchases?

Can I preview my class before paying?

Several of our courses have demos that you can try before you buy. For those that don’t, you can always preview the table of contents for each course located in the Course Details Page.

Logging in and Accessing Courses


I bought a course, so how do I access it?

To access your purchased courses, you will need to follow the instructions below:

  1. Sign in to your CareerBuilder Institute account by logging in at the top right corner of the page.
  2. From there, please click on the "My Courses" link.
  3. On this page, you will see two tabs: "My Courses" and "My Certificates." Please click on "My Courses".
  4. Under the heading "Current Course Listing", all active courses available to you will be listed.


Is my computer compatible with your website?

Generally the courses at a minimum require: 500MHz Pentium with 512MB Ram. 1024 x 768 minimum screen resolution. Windows 98, NT, 2000, or XP. Broadband connection (256 kbps or greater) connection recommended. Internet Explorer 6.0+ or Firefox 2.0+.  Flash Player 8.0 or higher required. JavaScript must be enabled.


I have a MAC, can I take the course?

All of the courses offered on CareerBuilder Institute are Mac compatible. If you should experience any problems, while going through a course, please feel free to contact us at 1.877.227.1283 and we will be more than happy to assist you with a resolution.


Why can't I see the entire screen when taking a course?

The courses on our site are designed to be used on computer monitors with a resolution of at 1024 x 768 or higher. You can modify the screen resolution for your monitor, if possible, to meet these criteria by following these instructions.

Changing resolution in Windows XP:

  1. Simply go to your desktop and right-click on some free space. A grey menu box will pop up.
  2. Left-click on Properties near the bottom of the menu. A large Display Properties box will pop up.
  3. Select the Settings tab in the Display Properties box.
  4. Use the little slide bar near the lower left of the Display Properties box to adjust desired screen resolution and then click Okay.

Changing resolution in Vista:

  1. Open Display Settings by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking Appearance and Personalization, clicking Personalization, and then clicking Display Settings.
  2. Under Resolution, move the slider to the resolution you want and then click Apply.


Where do I log in?

Logging in is easy. Click on the Login link from our homepage to create an account, buy courses and review your current and completed courses.


I Forgot My Password, what can I do?

In the top left corner of this site, there is a link entitled "Forgot Password".



On the following page, please enter the email address that you used when creating your CareerBuilder Institute account and click the “Recover Password” button to have our system instantly email the password to you.


Can I download my course?

All of our training materials are online, web-based courses which are only available through the Internet. However, we make downloadable reference materials available in all our classes.


Do the courses have to be installed on my computer?

Our courses do NOT require loading software on your computer to take the course. Our courses are web-based and are completely accessible online.


It is taking a while for one of my courses to load, is this normal?

Due to the nature of our courses and the amount of graphics that are a part of the course interface, we recommend that you have a broadband or high-speed connection when trying to complete the courses. If you do not have a high speed connection, you will still be able to take the courses; it will just take longer for the courses to load up on your computer and to navigate from screen to screen.


How can I see which courses I am currently taking and which courses I have purchased?

From the website home page, log in and click on the ‘My Learning Library’ tab. This will bring you directly to your current courses and will allow you to sign up for additional courses as well!


Why can't I see my progress through the courses?

The information you are looking for is available however, if it is not viewable your version of Flash Player may need to be updated on your computer. To update your Flash Player version, please go to the "My Courses" page on the site and click on the link "Adobe Flash Player Download." This link will take you the Adobe website and from there you can complete the upgrade.

The progress for any future courses that you complete will be recorded once the upgrade has been done, though any previous course progress will not be recorded. If you have updated your Flash Player and have completed all sections of your course and are still unable to see your certificate, please contact us directly at 1.877.227.1283 and we will be more than happy to assist you.


What do I do if I can't see my certificate?

All courses offer certificates of completion after all modules have been completed within the course. If you have successfully completed all modules, to access your certificates, you will need to follow the instructions below:

  1. Sign in to your CareerBuilder Institute account by logging in at the top right corner of the page.
  2. From there, please click on the "My Courses" link.
  3. On this page, you will see two tabs: "My Courses" and "My Certificates." Please click on "My Certificates".
  4. All available course certificates for expired courses will be listed on this page and from here you can click on the certificate that you’d like to view and/or print. If the course has not expired, on the "My Courses" tab, to the left of the course name, the certificate will have an orange box around it. Click there, and access your certificate.
